The Ultimate Bra Care Guide: Make Your Lingerie Last Longer

The perfect bra is more than just an intimate garment — it’s your go-to, everyday support system. Unfortunately, many of us inadvertently shorten the lifespan of our best boob buddies due to suboptimal care practices. With proper routine, you can maximize the life of your best bra, retaining its gorgeous and fit-as-when-newness for much longer. So here’s your definitive bra care manual

  1. Know when to Wash
You don’t have to wash your bra every time you wear it. Wash it every 2–3 wearings unless you have sweated heavily (like when you just worked out or spent a hot summer day). Washing too much can weaken the elastic and fabric.
  2. Hand Wash Is Best
Hand-washing can seem old-fashioned, but it is the best way to treat your bras tenderly. Fill a basin with cold water and a mild soap, swish your bras around, soak them in it for about 10–15 minutes, rinse, and squeeze out water (do not wring them).
  3. Place a Lingerie Bag in the Machine
If machine wash is unavoidable, use a mesh lingerie bag to keep your bras from twisting and snagging. Use a delicate wash cycle and cool water and a mild soap — skip bleach and fabric softeners.
  4. Always Air Dry
Tumble drying is the worst enemy of your bra. Heat deteriorates elastic and destroys the fit. To clean them carefully, lay your bras flat to dry (not on the straps, mind you, as they will stretch) or hang to dry. Don’t use direct sunlight, as it causes color to fade.
  5. Rotate Your Bras
Wearing the same bra every day can cause it to deteriorate sooner. Create a little rotation of 3–5 bras so that every bra gets a break in between uses, allowing the elastic to recover its form.
  6. Store Them Properly
Keep bras looking like new by stacking them in your drawer with cups upwards and never folded in on themselves. This keeps cups of moulded or padded bras from folding or sagging.
  7. Inspect for Wear and Tear
Check your bras every few months to look for stretched-out bands, poking wires, or loose strands. Repair small issues as you find them, or replace those that have lost their shape.
  8. Travel Smart
When traveling, store bras in a hard-sided case or stuff them with socks or underwear to keep them in shape in your luggage.

Last Words
Good lingerie is an investment — and like any valuable item, it needs to be treated as such. With these easy tips, you can keep your bras looking and feeling good and providing months (and even years) of comfort and support. The little extra attention will pay off in keeping your beloved items in your drawer and out of the garbage.
